Early Steamers is where toddlers start to truly explore. As babies grow into curious, mobile little explorers, this stage inspires them to investigate their surroundings through movement, language, and play, while building the early social and motor skills that support every stage of learning ahead. It’s an active, joyful class filled with music, movement, and plenty of hands-on discovery, all guided by educators who understand exactly what toddlers need at this age.
A Day in the Life of an Early Steamer
Days in Early Steamers balance active play with quiet, focused moments. Children move between guided activities like music and movement circles, sensory bins, and simple art, and independent play that lets them practice new skills at their own pace. Snack and mealtimes are used as opportunities for language development and independence, while regular outdoor time supports gross motor growth. Throughout it all, our educators narrate, name, and encourage; helping toddlers connect words to the world around them.
Developmental Focus
Toddlers between 1 and 2.5 years are developing rapidly across every area. Our Early Steamers curriculum is designed to support:
- Language development through songs, storytelling, and constant verbal interaction
- Gross motor skills like walking, climbing, and running through active, supervised play
- Fine motor skills through stacking, sorting, and simple art materials
- Early social skills as toddlers begin to play alongside — and eventually with — their peers
Where STEAM Begins
At this age, STEAM shows up through everyday exploration. Stacking blocks introduces early engineering concepts. Pouring water or sand introduces science. Simple cause-and-effect toys build early technological thinking. Our Early Steamers classroom is filled with open-ended materials that let toddlers experiment safely, ask “what happens if,” and build the confidence to keep exploring.
What Comes Next
As curiosity grows and structure becomes more meaningful, children move into our Junior Steamers class, where storytelling, creative play, and early science are introduced more intentionally.
