STEAM Focus
At Little Steamers, we’ve designed a curriculum that combines the renowned Scholastic Pre-K On My Way program with an immersive STEAM focus. Pre-K On My Way, developed in collaboration with the Yale Child Study Center, is a research-based curriculum created to support the cognitive, social, and emotional development of young learners. It provides a strong foundation in language, literacy, and early math, while encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
We believe in adapting this robust framework to bring out the best in our children, which is why we’ve integrated a strong STEAM component into daily activities. The flexibility of the Scholastic curriculum invites these modifications, allowing us to enhance traditional learning areas with additional challenges that encourage curiosity and critical thinking. Our tailored approach ensures that children not only develop a love for reading and foundational math skills but also gain hands-on experience with technology, engineering concepts, and creative arts.
Focus Areas
- Coding Robots: Our technology-based challenges introduce the basics of coding, where children learn to command robots through simple programming tasks. This not only familiarizes them with technology but also develops logical thinking and sequencing skills.
- Nature Exploration: Science and nature activities allow children to explore the natural world, observe living organisms, and learn through hands-on experiments. This inspires them to ask questions, make observations, and gain a deeper understanding of the environment.
- Engineering Projects: From building structures with blocks to designing bridges and ramps, our young learners explore engineering concepts that teach them about balance, structure, and problem-solving.
- Art and Creativity: Incorporating the arts, we encourage children to express themselves creatively, often combining art with other STEAM elements. For example, they might create art that represents their observations from a science activity or use recycled materials to construct their own inventions.
