Pre-K Steamers: School Readiness for Ages 4 and above

Pre-K Steamers is the final and most academically focused stage of the Little Steamers journey. Our Pre-K learners dive deeper into school readiness through literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, with project work, creative thinking, and elements of STEAM coming together to prepare them for the next step. This class is built on the Pre-K On My Way curriculum, developed in collaboration with the Yale Child Study Center and published by Scholastic, giving families confidence that their child is being prepared with a research-based, five-star program.

A Day in the Life of a Pre-K Steamer

Pre-K Steamers follow a structured yet engaging daily routine designed to build both academic skills and independence. Mornings often begin with literacy and language circles, followed by math and problem-solving activities woven into hands-on projects. STEAM-based project work gives children the chance to plan, build, test, and present their ideas, while social-emotional learning continues to be reinforced through group work, discussion, and reflection — all skills children will lean on in primary school.

Developmental Focus

At this stage, children are building the specific academic and social skills they’ll need for formal schooling. Pre-K Steamers focuses on:

  • Early literacy including letter recognition, phonics, and beginning writing
  • Early numeracy including counting, number sense, and simple problem-solving
  • Project-based learning that builds planning, critical thinking, and presentation skills
  • School-readiness habits such as following multi-step instructions, working in groups, and building independence

STEAM and School Readiness Together

Pre-K Steamers is where our STEAM approach and academic curriculum come together most fully. Children take on projects that require them to think like scientists, engineers, and artists — testing ideas, building solutions, and explaining their thinking — while building the literacy and numeracy foundations expected for primary school. Many of our graduates go on to attend leading schools in Qatar such as the American School of Doha, Doha College, and Qatar Academy.

Ready for What’s Next

After completing Pre-K Steamers, children transition confidently into primary school, equipped with strong academic foundations, problem-solving skills, and the curiosity to keep exploring.
